Our Story
It all started when we learned about the shark population tracking system developed in South Africa at a organization called Cape Radd. We realized that we could use this technology to help track the turtle population and migration patterns. So we reached out to Cape Radd and we were so happy when their leader, Mike, said yes! That was when Hawaii Hanu Heroes was created. So from then on we have been using this pattern recognition technology to help with saving the turtle species.
Our Mission
The Hawaii Honu Heroes Foundation is dedicated to protecting and preserving the Hawaiian turtle population. We prioritize protecting the turtles that inhabit the Hawaiian Islands. We are committed to providing the best possible future for the Hawaiian turtles and work with local dive shops to ensure their safety and wellbeing.We use a unique pattern recognition software to keep track of every turtle we come across so that we can better monitor their progress and ensure they are living in a safe environment. We are also partnering with an organization, known as Cap Radd, that uses a similar machine learning, recognition technology to track shark populations in Cape Town, South Africa.
